- Everything in moderation is good for you
- Everything in moderation means if you are trying to get in shape but don’t want to give up your favorite sugary unhealthy foods like donuts and candy, you don’t have to! You can still have junk food just not everyday. You also have to incorporate your fruits, veggies, proteins, carbs etc. There are also healthy alternatives for sweets! For example, if you love ice cream, a healthier very delicious ice cream I highly recommend is Halo Top ice cream!
- You should consider the importance of checking food labels. To improve the taste of processed foods, producers often add sugar to them. This type of sugar is known as added sugar. Common types of added sugar include table sugar (sucrose) and syrups, such as high-fructose corn syrup.
- By non processed foods with no high fructose corn syrup, artificial colors, flavorings, or sweeteners
- Artificial trans fats are very unhealthy
- Vegetables are rich in vitamins, minerals, fiber, antioxidants and an endless variety of trace nutrients
- Your plate should look like a peace sign (see picture inserted) Smallest part should be starchy carbs like potatoes, rice, or pasta. The biggest one should be composed of vegetables. The other smallest/ medium one should be your protein. And right in the center you should have some fruit for your natural sugars.
- Healthy fats such as nuts, avocados, could be your snacks throughout the day. Trail mix with some dark chocolate is a good choice.
- If you are planning on eating a large meal before you workout, you should wait 3-4 hours.
- If you are planning on eating a small meal, it is best to wait 1-2 hours before you workout.
- It is also good to have a snack if your workout is longer than 60 minutes.
